Barwon Darling Rugby League introduced a ladies league this year and the Collarenebri Rugby League Club set out to field a team.
“We were a bit anxious at the start to see if we would get a team,” said Chris Kirkland, the Bulldogs’ president. “We have more than a team now, with huge interest around the community and huge numbers at training.”
The women's team were defeated by the Lightning Ridge ladies in their first game.
The Under 17s were also unlucky, going down to Lightning Ridge 20-16.
“A grade had a great win against Lightning Ridge in their first game. As a coach, keeping them at nil was great, with great defence,” Mr Kirkland said.
“If we can keep our men healthy we are looking like great competition contenders. “
It is great for the town, Mr Kirkland said.
“The town love it, rugby league means everything out here. They come from far and wide to watch the men and women. It creates a really great culture for the community”
The Bulldogs and Bullettes will play in Cobar this weekend.
