Hickling crossed the line and plonked the ball down in what certainly would not have been 15 seconds after kick-off. Salt was rubbed into the wound well before the fifth minute when Warriors full-back Malcolm McGrady crossed for the team’s second try, and Boggabilla were off to a jaw dropping start, to a very tight 34-32 win.

Warrior’s president Peter Rice laughed as he denied Hickling’s try took 15 seconds to score.

“I think you’re exaggerating. More like five, I reckon,” he said.

“How long does it take a person, no matter how slow he is to run 50 metres when he’s on the fly at the start? Work that out.”

Rice said he thought it would go close to being the quickest try ever scored. But it wasn’t the only thing that went close on Saturday. 

When the Roosters recovered their composure, and the Warriors worked through their euphoria, both sides settled in to play good, tough competitive football.

“It was a good game, and it did see-saw a bit and there was quite a few points scored. It was an exciting game of footy, that’s for sure,” he said.

Rice said the Warriors were lucky to get away with the result.

“They had a shot for goal after the siren that would have tied the game, but fortunately for us it missed and we got away with the points,” he said.

The Roosters went to the sheds ahead 24-22 at half-time, but it was already apparent at that time the game would go either way.

And the second-half proved that point as the two point lead changed hands, with supporters of both sides taking the opportunity to give their voices a good workout.

The Warriors' win sees the team remain undefeated in this year’s Group 19 competition, and firmly cements its place at the top of the ladder.
