Tyson Green, Wyatt Roberts, Brayden Macey, Ryhs Smith and Byron Smith helped their team beat the Manly Bombers and Newington College.
Assistant coach Duane Macey said the new NIAS program made a difference for local players, who otherwise wouldn’t have the chance to face off with the city teams.
“There's a lot of talent in this town,” he said.
“The more exposure we can give these boys, the better.”
The NIAS boys showed up the city teams, taking their first game against the Manly Bombers with a score of 49-51. In the close game, Roberts stood out for his strong ball skills and willingness to step up to the responsibility of the back line.
“He doesn't usually play there,” Macey said.
He said all five players played really well.

Newington College was a challenge for the NIAS team, with an aggressive and physical style.
“They were big boys, they were a lot bigger,” Macey said.
“That was probably our toughest game.” Too concerned with Newington’s unfamiliar style and the umpire’s decisions, NIAS struggled at first. The team regained their composure during halftime and trounced their competition 63-93.
“We got down to the business end after half time and really went away with it in the second half.” Macey said the game was a good learning experience for the juniors.

The Moree players made the most of their time in Sydney, enjoying the Swans Essendon game on Saturday night. The first live AFL game for some, they were excited to see their heroes play, and learn from them.
Macey pointed that while valuable, experiences like this were expensive for country players, and said that team are hoping to gain local sponsorship.
