The boys’ father, Mike Montgomery, said during the first week of January Jack played in the under 14s NSW Country Championships for Central North.
“Jack travelled to Griffith for the carnival and out of the eight country zones Central North placed third in the competition.
“The winners were Central Coast,” he said.
The following week saw Patrick, the eldest Montgomery boy, play for Central North under 16s in Newcastle for the Bradman Cup.
“Paddy and the Central North team played really well and were actually the Country Champions.
“Consequently, Paddy’s now off to Mosman to play the winner of Green Shield this weekend.”
In the third week of January, Jack was on the field again, this time for the under 14s Northern Razorbacks where they won a state challenge against three other country teams and four metropolitan teams.
“Then, after that our youngest son Edward travelled to Lismore for trials for a (catholic schools) Polding cricket team.
“He was selected and will play at the NSW State Schools Carnival held in Saint George in Sydney in November,” Montgomery said.
To finish off the Montgomery’s cricketing success, Paddy received the news he had been chosen to play a state challenge after his impressive work at the Bradman Cup.
“Paddy made one of the two country teams, so he’s off to Sydney for an intensive coaching clinic and a few days of cricket in April.
“The challenge could lead to an under 17s state challenge and possibly the national team.
“These teams are all quite hard to get into, especially when you’re from a remote area so the boys have done quite well,” Montgomery said.
Jack and Edward will stay in Moree at the weekend to play in the last round of the Northern Inland Cricket Competition where Moree’s under 16s are leading the pack.
