Moree Plains Shire Council (MPSC) Crime Prevention Committee board member, John Tramby said there is now a greater awareness of the impact that ice is having not just in NSW but in Australia.
“There has been a lot of good work done now to address the situation. I believe once the federal and state governments accept their responsibility we will overcome this problem. It’s a disease it needs to be treated as such,” he said.
“Everybody has their own individual problems. The rural situation with drugs is just another problem that does and can exist in rural NSW. The lack of medical support in ice loaded regions is a problem.”
Cr Tramby believes an initiative ‘Dob in a Dealer’ fostered in by the police in Wellington NSW would be a good idea in Moree Plains.
“Australians have a culture of not dobbing people in for their activities. I believe ‘Dob in a Dealer’ is very effective. The police need this information; they need the intelligence, to be able to build a case. It’s simple to do, just ring Crime Stoppers.”
Cr Tramby has received calls from many members of the community who are concerned about the crime in Moree Plains.
“I have had a number of people contact me personally. I feel greatly for parents who become aware that they have a child or children with an addiction problem. They need support, they need to be able to get that support and obtain it in rural NSW.”
Cr Tramby implores everyone to support the police.
