Moree lost the toss and were sent in to bat first and scored 136.
Moree’s Senior Representative Cricket first batsman, Nick Bettington, said they did feel 136 was enough the way the pitch was playing. Very slow outfield. We proved right; they were bowled out for 90. We batted for 30 over’s, they only batted for 20 over’s.
During the first innings Ben Day took a ball to the neck, he retired hurt but came back to bat later.
“He had the wobbles on after he got hit, he is fine now,” Bettington said.
Ben Day ended up being the top scorer for the day with Mark Stewart second best run getter for the day.
“We did well; we have never played against Armidale in the round robin tournament. Armidale slipped in to fourth spot at the end of the season, we finished the season in first spot. They were the weakest team out of all the semi finalists.”
At the end of the match Moree scored 136. Man of the match went to Moree’s Alf Newman who took five wickets with Patrick Montgomery also took three wickets.
Going in to the finals Bettington and the team are feeling confident.
“Because we finished on top, went through the season undefeated and we won the semi final we have a home grand final.
Bettington is hoping that residents of Moree will come out and support the team.
“I think we’ve beaten every team easily this year to be honest thanks to our bowlers, our bowlers have been outstanding. We will be missing Patrick Montgomery for the final; he will be the only player missing. Other than that we will be at full strength.
Glen Innes Senior Representative Cricket captian, Nathan Purvis, said his team have a never give up attitude and have stayed positive all season so they won't be going into next week's match thinking they’ll lose.
"They are the top team, but almost everything we have been working on for the year came together last weekend and we are now in the grand final and anything can happen," he said.
Even thought Glen Innes have a keen attitude, Moree is the favourite to win.
