Eddie McGuire's 12-year-old son is heading for the small screen after being cast in long-running Australian soap Neighbours.
Xander McGuire will play Charlie Hoyland, the eldest son of controversial character Steph Scully who is returning to Ramsay Street after a prolonged absence, in his first on-screen role.
McGuire's son was reportedly bitten by the acting bug after performing in a school musical, and is set to follow in his famous father's footsteps.
"It's an amazing first job in the industry," Xander said.
"Neighbours has been such a big part of Australian television and has launched so many careers. I'm really excited."
The precocious youngster has started researching the on-screen family and said his own family paled in comparison.
"Marriage, stepchildren, battled cancer, had a son, was stabbed, sent to prison for manslaughter, and followed this up with a kidnapping — and I thought I had an interesting family in real life!"
AFL powerbroker father Eddie told News Corp Australia he was very proud of Xander who is starting his career at Channel 10 like him.
Said McGuire: "We parked in exactly the same spot where my dad parked when he took me out to Channel 10 for my interview (with then news director) David Johnston when I went for a job interview at age 17."
"I laughed and thought it might be a lucky omen for (Xander)."
"I'm not going to be a stage dad. He did all this on his own and on merit."
The Triple M host said it would be a full time job for Xander, who would need to keep up with school work and sport, but said it was a good opportunity for him.
The youngster will make his on-screen debut early next year and starts filming this Friday.
"I'm looking forward to working with them all and learning from the best in the business. It's a great honour to be part of … such a legendary show. It's all happened pretty fast, but I cannot wait."
