Impact Moree were handed $3000 to purchase a movie projector and Moree PCYC received $3000 to create a new laser tag arena in collaboration with the Men’s Shed.
Cr Claudia Gall, congratulated Impact Moree, praising the plan to screen movies.
Impact Moree is proposing to hold a 12 weeks of Christmas campaign in the neighbourhood to create positive social cohesion in the area.
The program will include a screening of two movies and placing little gifts in Adelaide Street, Tycannah Street and Dingwall Place mailboxes for 12 weeks.
Impact Moree pastor, Greg Lawson, is hoping the movie screenings at the church are going to be an ongoing event.
Meanwhile, Moree PCYC approached council for assistance in establishing a new laser tag arena as the current inflatables are beyond repair.
The new moveable arena will be made out of plywood to reduce wear and tear.
The PCYC’s aim is to create an alternative venue for birthday parties, school groups and holiday programs.
PCYC manager, Andrew Ryan, was excited to receive the funding.
“It’s really going to help with our laser tag arena, at present we do have inflatable walls but they’re just getting damaged,” he said.
“We want to make some solid walls that can be packed up.
“We also really want to do outreach to Mungindi and surrounding areas.
“It’s great that the council gets behind us.”
Cr John Tramby, was supportive, indicating he could be one of the participants.
“I want to play laser tag every few weeks,” he said.
