Central North had teams in both divisions, and players from Narrabri, Wee Waa, Inverell, Armidale Maitland, Singleton, Scone, Tamworth and Gunnedah trained during the winter months in the NSW Cricket Academy program under head coach Luke Knight.
One of the three Central North coaches, Leanne Browne, said the teams performed remarkably well, especially the under 15s.
“They had a tie to start with and had some thrilling games,” Browne said.
“In that tied game they only conceded one run in the last over.”
The match was against Illawarra. Central North finished on 3/82 and in reply Illawarra finished on 4/82.
In their second match, Central North won the toss and batted against Riverina, finishing on 3/121.
Riverina fell for 37 runs.
They then took on last year’s champions, North Coastal and reached 5/71, then dismissed North Coastal for 66.
The win took Central North was into the final against City, which was just too strong and eclipsed Central North’s 7/64 in the 15th over.
Central North under 18s started with a number of 15s backing up in the match against Western, which caught their 6/76 total in the 17th over.
After that loss they went on to defeat Riverina, but went down to Illawarra in the following round and were then defeated by North Coasters in the play-off for third.
