The 42-year-old did not appear in Moree Local Court yesterday to answer the charge stemming from the incident on September 4, but instead submitted a written letter admitting to the charge of highrange drink-driving.
Following the guilty plea, Magistrate Michael O'Brien adjourned the case for sentencing to Walgett Local Court later this month, after a request from the accused.
The man, who hails from Collarenebri, was arrested just after 7.30pm on September 4 after Barwon highway patrol officers stopped his vehicle on the Gwydir Highway, about 20km west of Moree.
He was stopped for a random breath test but failed the roadside test. He was taken to Moree Police Station and recorded a reading of 0.257 - more than five times the legal limit.
Police said at the time, the man was travelling with three children in the car.
