Nicole will be at the Moree Community Library on Thursday, September 3 to discuss her inspiration for her new novel and stories about her past.
During Nicole’s 25 years of writing she has been published internationally and is famous for her historical detail and country prosperity.
Nicole has won several awards.
Bar Cutters won an Australian Book Industry award and Absolution Creek and Sunset Ridge were both chosen for the nation government campaign called Get Reading, where they only choose 50 books a year.
Nicole said she thinks readers will enjoy her new novel.
“Wild Lands is set in the 1830’s when settlers were going outside boundaries to run stock,” she said.
“It shows the conflicts between white settlers and Australia’s first people and the difficulties of creating a business in an isolated frontier.
“All my stories have drawn from my family history.”
Nicole is fourth generation and was born and raised in Boomi.
“I still work on my family’s property a few days a week; it has given me some inspiration for my novels.”
Nicole said she has always had an interest in writing.
“When I was little I was exposed to country stories and it became a natural fit,” she said
“From there the process had become an extension.
“I started by writing travel articles, poetry and short stories
“I then worked my way up to writing a novel.
“I really like writing novels that have a strong narrative with strong characters and drives the story onwards and keeps the pages turning and the creation process is very satisfying and rewarding.”
Nicole said if anyone is interested in becoming a writer they need to understand one thing.
“If you are aspiring to be a writer you need to understand writing is all about writing and redrafting and refining your work until it becomes a pearl.”
Keeping busy, whilst on tour Nicole will continue to work on her next novel.
“My next book will be set in the 1950’s on a sheep station and that’s when wool prices sky rocketed because of the outbreak of the Korean War.”
During Nicole’s tour she will also be travelling to Inverell, Glen Innes, Walcha and Quirindi before travelling through the central west, southern NSW and Sydney.
Last time Nicole came to Moree more than 40 people attended her meeting, and found it rewarding.
Library officer, Kristy Moody, said Nicole’s last visit was highly praised.
“A lot of people are thoroughly looking forward to her talk on her new book Wild Lands,” she said.
“Wild Lands will be available for purchase and it’s a great opportunity to get your book personally signed by Nicole on the evening,” said Ms Moody.
Nicole Alexander will be appearing at 6pm at the Moree Community Library with doors open from 5.30pm and light refreshments served.
