Volunteers Darryl Brady and Les Lines said that Meals on Wheels is all about helping the elderly and keeping them in their homes longer.
“I have been volunteering for 12 months now and I love the job, you meet a lot of interesting people,” Mr Brady said.
“I have been volunteering since 1993 and I highly enjoy having a chat to the clients and hearing their stories,” Mr Lines said.
“I have tried to get other volunteers but it is just hard, I think people, especially young people are just too busy.”
Manager of Moree Meals on Wheels, Rachel Egan, said volunteers are priceless.
“We would be lost without our volunteers they are the ones that make our service,” Mrs Egan said.
“We are always looking for more volunteers and more clients.”
When Mr Brady and Mr Lines left with their meals they also delivered an extra gift to their clients, generously donated by the Moree Men’s Shed.
Clients received wooden serving trays to assure safety when receiving and eating their meals.
“Clients were surprised that someone had taken the time to think about their safety,” Mr Brady said.
Member of the Moree Men’s Shed, Keith Hovenden, said he saw the need for the trays and brought the idea to the other members of the Men’s Shed.
“When the volunteers would come and deliver the hot food, we would handle them with a tea towel and I was in horror because it was so easy to burn yourself,” Mr Hovenden said.
“I made a few and donated them to Meals on Wheels knowing that it would benefit the clients.”
