The day will be directed by Kathy Barber from Cricket New South Wales and Dan O’Conner from the Northern Inland Umpires’ Association.
The course is being hosted by the Moree District Junior Cricket Club who are looking to engage more parent volunteers.
Barber said it was about engaging more parents to assist and get involved in the local cricket committee.
“By providing some pre-season training we hope more volunteers will help out with hosting games on the weekends,” Barber said.
“The committee contacted us and asked for assistance, as what will be part of enhancing the local, junior cricket association.”
Moree Junior Cricket Club treasure/secretary, Nick Bettington said there were plenty of people willing to volunteer, but who were not confident enough to do it without the skills.
“Junior cricket parents offer to umpire on the day and some don’t know all the rules,” he said.
“We need properly trained umpires and in return this will improve the scorebooks, the game for the players and a better result all-round.
“This year the junior cricket club has over 160 players, which is astounding.
“This is another reason why we need skilled volunteers to help meet the demand.
“The support for the game is high and we would like to keep our standards high also.”
