The Group 19 under 12s and under 13s travelled to Tamworth to take on the boys from Group 21 – which covers the Upper Hunter – and the Tamworth centred Group 4.
Moree had two players in the under 12s: Kayden Smith on the wing and Joshua Ricketts in the half.
Moree boys Jacob Robinson, Corey Ricketts, Daniel Smith, Julius Widders, Dwayne Smith and David Annis-Brown played in the under 13s.
Coach Louise Ricketts said the under 13s boys went into their first match against Group 21 with nerves, as the Scone-based rep team came into the match having flogged Group 4.
“But it was 10-4 at half time … we really put the wind up them,” Ricketts said.
The Group 19 team went down 30-8 in the end, with the two tries coming from Moree players.
Dwayne Smith scored a breakaway try from fullback and Annis-Brown bagged a try from second row.
The under 13s finished on a high after they managed to hang on to a 40-38 win against a fast-finishing Group 4 side.
Dwayne scored two more tries in that game and converted one, Ricketts – who captained the side – scored a try as did Daniel and Widders. The former converted one while the latter slotted three conversions.
“Those conversions ended up being hugely important, considering we only won by two points,” Ricketts said.
Dwayne Smith was voted players’ player in the second game.
The under 12s lost both games, going down 18-6 to Group 21 and 14-10 to Group 4.
