Moree and District Cricket Club’s outgoing treasurer and secretary, Sophie Evans, is calling on opinionated cricketers to turn up to the annual general meeting – or zip up.
“A lot of people during the season say ‘you should do this or you should do that’ ... well they need to be on the committee or they need to come to meetings so they can voice what they think should happen,” Evans said.
“You can’t have your say from the sidelines if you are not willing to help … and right now we are short of help.”
Evans is standing down this season due to an increased workload.
She said the club needed others to stand up – or face losing cricket in Moree.
“If we don’t get a committee going then there is no cricket next season,” Evans said. “There’s stuff that has to be lodged to the tax office, plus insurance that has to be paid.”
But the AGM is not just about paperwork, Evans said it was also a chance to decide the format of the upcoming season, such as more or less emphasis should be given to T20 cricket and how representative teams should be picked.
It will also include nominations for positions of president, secretary, treasurer and the committee.
The meeting will be held from 6pm at the Moree Golf Club on Wednesday, July 15.
