I am writing in regard to the future of the former Lands Department building in Frome Street, Moree.
I can see great potential for the building being put to good use by the Moree Historical Society for the display of memorabilia and historical exhibits.
Recently, the society held the 150th anniversary of Moree celebrations and was overwhelmed by the response and support of the community.
A historical display was held in the banquet hall which was inundated by the donations and loans of memorabilia and display items brought in by the public, far exceeding all expectations, so much so that there was not enough room to exhibit them all.
I am sure that if the Lands Department building was to be turned into a museum we could expect the same level of community support and the society would receive even more memorabilia to go on permanent display to the public.
A museum would not only be a great tourist attraction for Moree but also an excellent way of preserving the history of Moree and the surrounding districts for future generations.
