Narrabri came out firing in the reserves getting two goals on Moree due to “unlucky errors”.
Moree’s defence fought back taking the score to 2-2 going into the half time break.
President Matthew Urquhart said that came off the back of good team work and a lot of passing.
“It’s good to see everyone picking up what we are doing at training,” he said.
“At half time we talked about continuing to play like we train to do... looking to pass and receive the ball in a good position.”
The final score was 4-3.
During the last few weeks most players have been backing up in both grades.
“The players have been quite sore having to play two games so it was quite refreshing to take the field with fresh legs,” Urquhart said of the first grade game.
Narrabri again dominated at the start.
“They were pretty much on top for the first 20 minutes after a rushed start from the referees,” Urquhart said.
“We were actually down a player for the first five to 10 minutes with someone strapping their blisters but once we started to settle in and play at our own pace we were more dominant on the ball,” he said.
“Our passing and positional play improved on previous weeks and we played well as a team.”
The 1-0 lead going into half time was representation of the team’s hard work and coming together, Urquhart said.
“At half time we talked about getting the ball and looking for someone to pass to, and not holding on to the ball too much,” he said.
“Their midfield was quite quick.”
The 3-0 win came from persistence in attack on both sides of the field.
The teams will continue to focus on passing and positions at training this week.
“Even though we did improve well at the weekend we still haven’t mastered it,” Urquhart said.
