One Double won the main race of the first leg of the 2015 Golden Triangle Picnic Races, followed by stablemates Planetarium and Dungiven.
“I always said there was a chance for the trifecta,” Sinclair said. “I had three horses in the race and all in good knick... still I was pleasantly surprised.”
Earlier, the Sinclair-trained Booked Out won the Bracelet Handicap while Petals Pride claimed the Moree Maiden Plate.
With three of the day’s races claimed by the Moree trainer, it was no surprise Sinclair was once again awarded the trainer’s bonus.
“I couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve got it now,” Sinclair said. “But I guess I should’ve won it this year with so many horses entered!”
Moree Picnic Race Club president Tim Poole said it was good to see a local trainer come out trumps on the day.
“It was also fantastic to entertain One Double’s syndicate owners, who are on the Mallawa committee,” Poole said. “Now we’ll have to see if he can do the same out there.”
Sinclair said One Double’s chances of making it two from two at this year’s picnic races were a mystery.
“He’s never done a dirt track before so we’ll have to see how he goes out there, but it would be nice for him to have a win in front of his owners,” he said.
Sinclair said Planetarium would not compete at Mallawa or Talmoi and instead focus on longer races.
Dungiven would be a strong contender though, he said, after wins in all three picnic cup meets last year as well as at Mungindi and Wean.
Poole said numbers were slightly down this year, estimating that more than 500 turned up to enjoy the day.
“The rugby union being on might have affected numbers, but overall the weather was great, the crowd was good, local trainers did well and everyone had a dance afterwards,” he said.
Sarah Kirkby was named best dressed female and Angus Boileau was the best dressed male at the track. Nicole Cotter won the millinery award while Sturt Daly and Mardi Olsen-Daly were the best dressed couple.
