She was the first president and remains in the position after 27 years.
As the local hospital had no palliative wards the group asked for a room to furnish with specialist equipment, and with overwhelming community support they got even more than they asked for.
The rooms have been refreshed on at least two occasions since, and equipment is available for patients who wish to stay at home, with improvements continuing with local support each year.
This group has also been responsible for helping Narrabri, Wee Waa and Gunnedah to start.
Like all committees membership gets smaller and the group is hoping that the AGM on Monday, May 18 sees a bigger roll up. There is still much to do.
The community of the Moree Shire are very fortunate to have a long serving hospital auxiliary, cancer group, renal group, helicopter service and oncology room to make the Moree hospital exceptional, and helping to treat people also outside the shire.
All these committees rely on community support.
The Moree Cancer Support Group is always ready to talk to cancer victims and carers.
If you contact the hospital and ask for Amalda you will be able to contact them.
Their assistant will make a world of difference to you, either as cancer victim or carer.
The group hopes to see former cancer patients and carers go along to the AGM, or anyone else who is interested.
This group is essential to the community.
