Mr Borsak said farmers and property owners in NSW had reported a significant increase in the number of wild dogs, and that a bounty would help to control numbers.
“According to figures from Local Land Services, wild dog attacks in North West NSW have tripled in five years, and yet the government has not taken decisive action to address the problem,” he said.
“The Shooters and Fishers Party will push for the introduction of a wild dog bounty in the next parliament,” Mr Borsak said.
Mr Borsak said towns in North West NSW were being overrun with pests, and that the government had not done enough.
“Some reports have the national cost of the wild dog problem approaching $50 million, so it’s important we take decisive action. Introducing a wild dog bounty would enhance existing trapping and baiting programs and assist the hard working farmers in an around Moree,” he said.
Mr Borsak made the announcement during an 11 day bus trip around regional NSW with Shooters and Fishers Party Upper House candidate Steve Lee.
Mr Lee, of Parkes, said he understood the devastation caused by wild dogs and other pests.
“The government isn’t doing enough to address the problem. There is a place for other control methods, but at the end of the day, shooting these dogs is the most humane and effective method of reducing wild dog numbers,” Mr Lee said.
