Moree Boars vice-president, Mick Fernance, said other local events and the wet weather may have been a contributing factor to low crowd numbers but was happy with the evening overall.
“All the teams played in good spirit and there were no major injuries which was good. The girls league tag got numbers for about three and a half teams so we had to cut it down to three teams instead of four but that wasn’t a big deal,” he said.
Fernance said the two referees on the night, Rod Tighe and Adam Bartlet, did a great job.
“Everyone who attended the event said it was great and that they enjoyed it immensely, so we’re happy with that feedback. We hope there will be higher crowd numbers this coming Friday night, which there should be if the weather is fine,” he said.
The women’s league tag opened the evening with the Dolphins starting their game off with a win 19-0 against the Sharks.
In the men’s the Rabbits and Raiders were neck-and-neck during the second game, but the Rabbits were just triumphant with a 17-16 win.
The Bullants faced the Jets and had a confident 12-4 win.
The next women’s league tag game was a tie, five-all for the Sharks and Marlins.
The Kookaburras flew in next and swooped a win off the Dragons 16-14.
The Raiders then took the field and dominated the Jets 12-4.
It may have been the wet-weather that gave the Dolphins an upper-hand against the Marlins as they again won 19-0.
After the Dolphins’ win, the Bullants and Dragons faced off with the Bullants winning 19-17.
The final game of the night saw the Kookaburras triumph against the Rabbits 16-11.
“I might be a bit bias but the Bullants and Kookaburras are going to be tough teams to beat this comp. The Dolphins in the league tag also did really well both games,” he said.
Fernance encouraged everyone to attend the next round of the nines on Friday evening.
“We are going to start at 5.30pm now so that the night finishes a bit earlier but either way it’s sure to be a great night of entertainment and it is only $2 for entry which is a good bargain,” he said.
