Moree Golf Club head professional, Matthew McGuire, said although numbers were down from previous years, he was happy with the turnout.
“We ended up with 43 juniors from Coonabarabran, Goondiwindi, Warialda, Inverell, Walcha, Armidale, Tamworth and Gunnedah as well as obviously Moree with 21 local juniors participating,” he said.
McGuire sent the older, more-experienced golfers out for 18 holes on Sunday morning, he then sent the younger ones out for nine holes. The youngest were the last to hit the 150s course, a modified nine-hole course.
The overall winner on the day was Andrew Brennan of Walcha, who finished the day on 73.
In the 17 years and under category local competitor, Darcy Carroll was runner up with 76.
Rhys Devney, also of Moree, was the nett winner in the 14 years and under.
Local girls Breanna Purse and Katrina Girard represented well throughout their 18-hole game, with Purse taking home the gross win with 82, and Girard the runner-up with 133.
In the nine-hole boys’ event three locals placed first, second and third; Jack Rae was the winner with 55, Jason Haddad followed closely with 61 and Royce Carroll had 69.
Similar results were seen in the nine-hole girls’ competition with local Annabelle Abrahamsen winning with a score of 55 and Ellie Rae, of Moree, came second with 93.
In the nine-hole 150-metre locals Will Slack-Smith won with 51, and Tom Watts was a close second with 56.
In the girls 150-metre competition Eliza Watts, of Moree, won with her score of 65.
“By all reports the juniors had a great day with some good results from our locals,” McGuire said.
