After 13 applications were made to the council for financial assistance, councillors discussed how the money would be distributed.
With just over $18,000 to allocate, councillors decided to give $1000 to the Mungindi Central School Parents and Citizens for their 2015 carnivale and Relay for Life.
The remaining $17,000 was split evenly between:
• Moree Show Society for the 2015 show;
• Moree BMX Club for infrastructure upgrades;
• Mungindi Campdraft Association to help finalise amenities at the showground;
• Moree Pony Club to host Zone Eight Showjumping Championships;
• Moree Boomerang’s Rugby League Football Club to establish junior rugby league;
• Moree Junior Touch to attend the 2015 NSW Junior State Touch Competition in Port Macquarie; and
• Pallamallawa Campdraft Yards and Arena Committee to repair the yards at the sports and recreation grounds.
Two requests, from Fairview and Lions Ladies, were deferred for consideration for the next financial quarter applications.
Three applications did not meet council’s donation policy.
Mayor, Katrina Humphries, said she was happy with the outcome.
“Everyone came close to receiving their requested amount which is a great outcome for everyone,” she said,
Councillor Rodney Brazel spoke against the decision and said there should have been more funds directed to certain applicants, rather than splitting it evenly. “Some of these clubs need the money more than others.”
