The Moree Library will hold its Big Book Sale on Friday and Saturday, January 30 and 31, with cooperative library manager Sally Walters predicting that readers won’t have to reach too far into their piggy banks to go home with a new addition to their bookshelves.
“They’ll be at the bargain price of 50 cents or a $1,” she said. “Maybe some will go for $2 as well.”
Ms Walters said the library was still “weeding” books from its shelves and people were continuing to donate but that there would at least be several hundred books on sale.
“There’ll be lots of non-fiction, factual books,” she said.
“We’ve got some old books on cooking and gardening, history and geography.
“So there’ll be a whole variety, including a spattering of fiction and children’s books.
“Some of it’s also accounting – accounting dates pretty quickly, so you can’t keep that on the shelf! But you never know what will be one person’s treasure.”
She said that while she hoped bookworms and bargain hunters walk away with a gem, the whole community would be the big winners from the day.
“We are going to use all the funds raised from the sale to purchase new stock, new books for our shelves,” Ms Walters said.
“We’ll be replacing non-fiction material, all of those areas that we’ve been weeding; art, music, history, geography and a whole range of interest topics.
“We buy books every week, so there is a whole range of exciting material which comes through all the time, and if there is something which people would like us to buy they can let us know and we can try and source it for them.”
Moree Library is part of the North West Slopes and Plains Cooperative Library Service which also includes Brewarrina, Gwydir, and Walgett libraries and has more than 45,000 items in its collection.
The sale will run from 9.30am to 5pm on Friday and from 9am to midday on Saturday.
