Moree was without a host of regulars due to their commitments with the previous day’s twilight races and was made up primarily of under 18s and some golden oldies.
Nonetheless young quicks Paddy Montgomery and Dom Pilon got the team off to a cracking start and all the bowlers pitched in with wickets to have Gunnedah reeling at 7/87.
Veterans Steve Scarlett and Jason Walker were the pick of the bowlers, with figures of 2-19 off eight overs and 2-17 from seven, respectively.
But a 64-run partnership between Troy Sands (49) and Zac Wheatland (21) for the seventh wicket proved the difference between the teams.
Openers Nick Bettington and Scott Palombo both fell for naught, while Walker, Scarlett and Pilon made it a veritable flock of ducks as Moree collapsed for 102.
The one bright spot from Moree’s run chase was Will Robinson’s partnership with fellow Year 8 student Montgomery. The pint sized 14-year-old put on 24 while at the other end Montgomery blasted 26.
