Barwon Local Area Commander, Superintendent Gelina Talbot was present when all 313 recruits were sworn in at the Attestation ceremony of ‘Class 323’ at the NSW Police Academy in Goulburn last Friday.
“These recruits have shown great dedication and spirit to pass the requirements of the course at the police academy and I’m sure they will approach the next phase of their career with the same enthusiasm,” Supt Talbot said.
She said the officers’ first day was only the first of many milestones in a challenging, yet rewarding career.
“Whilst the first day officially on the job can be daunting, Moree is a great community and we are excited to have these officers join our ranks and guide them through the start of their new career.”
The officers will complete 12 months on-the-job training and study by distance education with Charles Sturt University before they officially graduate with an Associate Degree in Policing Practice. Once they graduate, the officers will then be confirmed in the rank of Constable.
“There will be many challenges throughout the coming year and beyond, but policing is always interesting and there can be incredible rewards,” Supt Talbot said.
She also said the arrival of the new officers was great news for the community.
“The best way to reduce crime is to ensure we have the resources to provide local solutions to local problems. Elizabeth, Mathew and Peter are a welcome boost to policing resources in Barwon,” she said.
