Acting Institute Director Lyn Rickard said, “We are excited to be able to continue our work with individuals, enterprises and communities, building a strong and prosperous region, through the provision of quality education”.
“Smart and Skilled is one element of our business plan for 2015,” Ms Rickard said.
“Our new business environment means we will be innovative in when, where and how we educate people across the region.
“There will continue to be generous concessions and fee exemptions for many people living in our region, and from next year flexible payment options, as well as access to income contingent loans for those that are eligible.
“People and employers around the region can be confident that TAFE will give you the skills you need for the job you want,” she said.
Meanwhile, vital information on vocational education and training courses in Barwon is now easier to find after the launch of a new website to provide up-to-date details on the Smart and Skilled courses available in 2015.
Member for Barwon, Kevin Humphries said the website was a one-stop shop for people seeking information on training and apprenticeships.
“This is a huge plus for students in Barwon and another milestone in the Smart and Skilled reform process. The information includes new fee arrangements, details of support for disadvantaged students and strong new quality measures,” Mr Humphries said.
“Competition for contracts to deliver NSW Government-subsidised training under Smart and Skilled was intense. All students can be assured of high standard training as providers had to meet strict quality criteria,” he said.
“There is also extensive choice about where to train, with an average of 109 providers operating in each of 15 regions across the state.
“The training offered reflects the skills needs of industry in each region, to best match students with future job opportunities.”
Under Smart and Skilled:
· Disadvantaged students will continue to receive generous concessions;
· Aboriginal students will be exempt from fees;
· Students with a disability will have access to fee exemptions; and
· Students on benefits will receive generous fee concessions for Certificates I to IV.
Smart and starts on January 1, 2015 and TAFE welcomes both new and continuing students.
