Kane achieved a gold medal at the 2014 WorldSkills Australia National Competition held in Perth during September, and was subsequently nominated for the award, which is offered through the Tafe NSW WorldSkills unit and the Hunter Tafe Foundation.
This award is open to NSW competitors in all skill or trade areas that competed at the competition and met the selection criteria associated with this award. The selection criteria stipulated that the competitor be a quiet achiever; gives total commitment and dedication; overcame obstacles or adversity to participate and went out of their way to help fellow competitors.
Tafe New England VETis and Worldskills coordinator Kate Dubois said Kane showed total commitment to training in the lead up to competition, and was recommended by volunteer committee members for the award for displaying commitment and dedication to throughout his training the competition.
"Kane is a true example of everything Tafe New England stands for," Ms Dubois said.
"His teachers worked with him to see him gain the skills he needed to progress in his chosen field, and he gave the personal commitment needed to bring it all together.
"Kane faced a number of challenges throughout the process and he is to be admired for his achievements," Ms DuBois said.
There were impressive nominations from a wide range of NSW regions which were all worthy of recognition. The judges found it a difficult decision to make, however Kane’s documented WorldSkills journey, courage and the determination he displayed has now been rewarded.
Kane was nominated by Tafe New England, along with supporting references from his employer A1 Auto Electrics and Air-Conditioning, and his work colleagues.
Kane will be presented with his award at a function hosted at Tafe New England later this year.
