Organiser Melissa Molloy said the funds would go to her sister Donna Hobday, and her partner Len Smith who have both been diagnosed with cancer.
Ms Molloy said it was hard to estimate the number of people who attended the event but said it was a “full house” at the Gravesend hotel.
“It was completely packed out. There would have been at least a couple of hundred people there,” she said.
Of the total amount, $6000 was raised through an auction which included items donated by residents and businesses locally, in Moree and Warialda.
The rest of the money was raised through yabbie races, raffles and a barbecue.
“It was outstanding,” Ms Molloy said of the funds raised. “More than I ever expected,” she said.
“Donna works in Moree and is very well known in that community so a lot of people travelled out to support her.
“Unfortunately she wasn’t able to be there as she can’t come home for six months while she receives treatment but I called her the next day and she was in tears. She couldn’t believe how supportive people had been.
“We are just so grateful and thankful. You can’t really express it in words,” she said.
“Lenny was able to be there on the night and he was completely overwhelmed.”
Ms Molloy wanted to thank everyone involved in the night; those who donated items or their time and especially her work colleague Susan Brown who was a great help, and Col Pring who was MC for the night.
“A heart filled thanks and appreciation must go to my band of helpers and on behalf of Donna and Lenny we thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.”
