Remember when we first got self-serve check-outs? Some were outraged, some were elated.
But did we ever think they would come to Moree?
Would they make it all the way out to our bush communities with such ‘small’ populations?
Do we have a need for them here? Or anywhere in fact?
They could be a blessing. No more long queues, no more making idle conversations with the check-out person, you pack your bags how you like…
But, aren’t country towns pride of their friendly customer service?
Aren’t we known for our personal approach to things? Our kind smiles, friendly waves, hellos…
What if we turn into ‘city people’ - people who are so used to not having to talk to anyone, they just look straight through you?
We are already so detached from the world around us, whether it be on our phones, shopping on the internet, sending an email instead of meeting up. Where are we heading?
