It is estimated that in the course of a person’s life they will have a personal experience with, or have someone close to them who is touched by cancer.
Moree’s Relay for Life will be held on Saturday and Sunday providing a way for locals to join the fight against cancer.
So far over 25 teams have registered joined by over 200 individuals.
Local committee president, Dennis Purse, said organisers anticipated over 400 registrations which would bring the figures close to last year’s event.
“We’ll have a load of live entertainment from local school children, bands and singers. There will also be a lot for the whole family to do,” he said.
Each team registered will have a tent with the choice of creating a “drawcard” for the individuals.
“Some teams are doing tribute balloons where you can write a message and put it in a balloon, carry it around or let it go,” Mr Purse said.
The tributes, candle lighting and remembrance service will start around 8pm on Saturday evening.
“We’ll also have the mystery league on Saturday night where men dress as women and there’ll be movies playing for those who are camping overnight,” he said.
Organisers hoped the cold weather would disappear for the event, where they hope to raise $60,000.
The theme of this year’s event is superheroes and everyone is invited to dress in your favourite superhero costume.
“We hope to see everyone throughout the community participating in the Relay for Life. It doesn’t matter if it’s for a few hours of for the whole weekend, every bit counts,” he said.
