The talented youngster missed out with the bat, scoring just two against Wynnum Manly.
Houlahan said it was tough conditions for batting.
“It was a green wicket and they had a first-class bowling attack with some players who had played for Queensland before,” he said.
Houlahan said he was tested by former Australian opening bowler Peter George who worked perfectly to a plan.
“He bowled a few short ones and pegged me back and then got one that nipped away, and I was caught by a screamer at gully, but that’s cricket,” he said.
“It was still a good experience.”
Houlahan then sat back and watched his side amass 9-388 by the end of the day, with team mate Andrew Robinson scoring a classy 203 not out.
“He’s a tall left-hander like me and a player I like to base my game on,” he said.
Luckily for Houlahan, the two-day game finishes this weekend where he might get a chance to bat again.
It capped off a rollercoaster week for the talented opener who was a member of the Queensland Open Schoolboys cricket side that travelled to Sydney and defeated New South Wales the previous weekend.
“We retained the Carbine Cup because we had a two-day game which ended in a draw and we won the one-dayer,” Houlahan said.
Luckily for the Moree District Cricket Association, Houlahan might be in Moree in the middle of the season.
“I’ll probably be back in town around Christmas so I might play a game or two around then,” he said.
