HIPPY is an international program that targets and supports young families the year prior to their children commencing full-time schooling.
Organiser, Gina Munro, said the program started locally in April and there are currently 25 participants with enrolments being taken for 2015.
“HIPPY empowers parents to be their children’s first teacher, and promotes school readiness,” she said.
The program is funded through the Australian Government’s Department of Education, so there is no cost for the participating parents.
“The program is delivered by home tutors through home visits and parent groups. Tutors are also parents participating in the program and members of the community,” she said.
Ms Munro said the parents and children enjoyed the day playing in the park, being visited by Dorothy the Dinosaur.
