On Saturday the club held a ‘come and try day’ as part of the Moree council’s Bike Week event.
Organiser, Chris Poole, said he was encouraged by the turnout.
“We had about 75 kids come down,” he said.
“We taught them a few skills and had some games, but we didn’t really know how many we’d get.
“It wouldn’t have surprised me if we got 50, but it wouldn’t have surprised me if we got 100 either, so it was good to see.”
As well as the 75 riders, coaches from Tamworth, Casino and Grafton made the trip to hold some clinics with the younger riders.
“The coaches were really impressed with some of the kids,” Poole said.
“We broke them into five small groups and took them to various parts of the track before we rode over and back to the rocket park on the path along the river.
“Most of the kids improved a lot in such a short time by the end of the day.”
As part of the day, Poole said they held various exhibition races with some healthy competition.
“There was a bit of competitiveness going on which was good to see,” he said.
Poole said starting on October 17 the club would hold games and coaching sessions of a Friday afternoon between now and the end of the year from 5.30pm.
“It will be daylight saving then so we can go until 7.30 or eight o’clock because we’ll have more daylight.”
