Thousands are expected to visit the growing event, held in conjunction with the monthly Jellicoe Park markets.
Displays will include everything from vintage vehicles to hot rods, motorcycles, mud bombs, trucks, motorbikes, and just about everything else you can think of.
Exhibitors will include locals along with visitors from Goondiwindi, Inverell, Narrabri, Maitland and beyond, with the crowd expected to travel from a wide region.
Dad and daughter team, and car club members, Phil and Bec Partridge will be there for all the action, and to spend some time together on the special fathers’ occasion.
“When I was in about Year 6 I became interested in cars,” Miss Partridge said.
“Dad was always going away to a lot of shows and drags and one day I went along and liked it,” she said.
“It’s nice to do stuff together.”
It was a photo of a hot pink convertible her dad had taken at a show that really took Bec’s fancy as a young teenage girl.
But it’s a 1967 HR Holden utility that has her heart.
Miss Partridge asked her dad to build her a car in about Year 9, and she even helped “a tiny bit”. “It took 12 months to build from the bare body,” Mr Partridge said.
“It’s made up of running gear from a VK commodore.”
Mr Partridge has always had an interest in all sorts of motorsports.
“I’ve been interested in cars since about 14 and motorbikes beforehand,” he said. “I was buying hot rod magazines and drawing stuff while I was in school, and I started building my first car before I left school.”
Mr Partridge is heavily involved in the drag club at Tamworth and raced for many years.
He likes all types of cars but he has a soft spot for corvettes, not that he could afford one. “I have a heap of models,” he laughed.
His ’54 Chev has an “old body and a young heart” and his next project has the same body. It’s a long-term task though.
“I help build cars for other guys too,” Mr Partridge said.
“I do everything myself, including the paintwork, and except for the upholstery.
“That’s the thing about being in the car club, we all have different skills and help each other out.
“We have a club project at the moment where we are turning an old Holden stationwagon into a barbecue trailer.”
“We encourage everyone to come along and learn new skills,” Miss Partridge said.
“And the club is for all types of cars, and all ages,” she said.
There are about 40 members and the club is often invited to different community events, and goes on social outings like weekend runs.
