All up, 43 teams covered 2500 kilometres with their destinations unknown until half an hour before departure.
“We had probably about 800 kilometres of just dirt road,” Mr Colbran said.
“We left Brisbane on the Friday night and then travelled to Hebel, Tibboburra, Hungerford and then back to St George and finished back in Brisbane.”
He said the trip was all about characters and the one thing that everyone missed when they returned home was the dust.
“You miss sleeping on dirt,” he laughed.
“It’s all for a good cause; it was all a lot of fun. It was well run and no-one missed out.”
Mario and Luigi were two characters which added an extra bit of fun to the trip.
“All the teams had different themes and the boys had a little Mazda 121 which they drove, which actually looked a bit like a Mariokart,” Mr Colbran said.
In amongst the dust, the swags and the dirt, competitors were surprised the one night they stayed at St George where they bunked down in a winery.
Mr Colbran said there was plenty of light-hearted banter between the teams about the different cars.
“There was a Mirage that everyone just hated for some reason, but amongst all the other cars that we had to leave behind, the little Mirage was the one that returned even though it spun off the road one day,” he said.
All up $213,000 has been raised for the Cancer Council, with Mr Colbran and sister, Anni, raising about $11,000 of that between themselves.
“We’re already looking to do another one next year. There’s one in Townsville and another one in Sydney and we’ve already made enquiries about the one in Townsville.”
