Montgomery and Fisher were members of the Polding side which were defeated by Mackillop in the grand final, while Duncan played for North West in a side which finished 12th.
Polding is the catholic schools from northern Sydney and north and western NSW, which is mirrored by MacKillop in the southern half of NSW.
Father, Mike Montgomery, said all boys played well, going close to scoring a number of times.
“Jack and Nick didn’t score, but they went pretty close,” he said.
“Jack was dragged down about a foot short on one occasion and Nick was bundled over the sideline in another.
“In another game Nick and Jack were alternating between the same wing position and Jack also spent a bit of time in the forwards, but he was in amongst some other big boys.”
Over the course of the three-day competition, Polding defeated Western Division 29-0 before they backed that up with a 12-5 victory over eventual premiers Mackillop in a match played in driving rain.
They then defeated Sydney East 7-5 and Sydney West 5-0 before losing 19-12 in the grand final.
“For most of the competition the conditions were mainly for the forwards so the backs didn’t see a lot of ball,” Montgomery said.
“But the team manager said on the first day they would give everyone a go and if that meant they lost games, then so be it.
“They didn’t really know anyone at the start, but by the end they were all signing each others caps which was great to see.”
