It will be the final game of a disappointing season but coach, Darrel Smith, said the focus would be on replicating their earlier season form when they beat the Hawks.
When asked for a description of the season as a whole, he summed it up as “tiring”.
“That’s how it’s been for most of the year,” he said.
“It’s been really draining for the players that have turned up and had to play two games each weekend, and it’s starting to show now because we’re getting a fair few injuries.”
Out of the dark shadow that is season 2014, Smith said a shining light was the performances of some junior players who had played senior football for the first time.
“Simon Davis has really improved out of sight,” he said.
“It’s his first year in seniors; the same with Jessica Maher, and Simon’s been man of the match in first grade a couple of times. He’s shown that if you want to get in, and you’re keen to learn you can be rewarded.”
Smith said this season would have the club in better shape in years to come.
“Every club goes through a low period in their cycles,” he said.
“We lost a lot of players from last year but that was through work commitments or they’ve had an addition to the family so they haven’t been able to play.”
While the results on the field haven’t been as successful as the club would like, Smith said the team had received nothing but positive feedback from both opposition players and referees.
“They’ve all said if some of the other teams had as much heart as us they’d go really well because having 15 players turn up and play two games on a weekend is pretty tough.”
He said the club was still proud of the fact the ground at the services club was still one of the better facilities in the competition.
“Thanks to Matt and Dean for preparing the field for us all year; they’ve done a terrific job.”
