Mr Aber, who has a career in local government spanning almost 36 years, said he had enjoyed the journey with Moree Plains Shire Council, which has been both challenging and rewarding.
“Under the new reforms and direction for Local Government the council will need a general manager for the long-term and I am unable to commit to that, so I have made the decision not to apply for renewal of my contract,” Mr Aber said.
Mayor Katrina Humphries this was a time to reflect, celebrate and change over the organisation’s leadership with minimal disturbance to the councillors, operational staff and the community.
“Personally I would like to congratulate Dave on the level that he has taken the Moree Plains Shire Council to under his leadership, and I am confident he will remain a fixture around the Plains for many years to come,” councillor Humphries said.
“I wish Dave and his wife Sue all the very best for their future.”
The search for a new general manager will begin in the new year so a replacement can be appointed prior to Mr Aber retiring.
