Division one player, Rachel Cubis, said they won five out of six games played on the day.
“This year we have a really strong side and every single player has worked so hard on their fitness, skills and game play over the last few months,” she said.
An advantage for the side, according to Cubis, was they not only play netball together but are all friends and regularly socialise together.
“This year it’s our turn to hold the finals and at the moment we are sitting on top of the ladder with Armidale, Tamworth, Inverell, Narrabri and Gunnedah behind us,” she said.
The division two team also played six games on the day and won one.
Although they didn’t win many games, the players said they gained experience and learnt a lot in preparation for the next round.
On August 17 both teams will play their second state league rep game for the season on home soil.
“We will then travel to Armidale the week after on August 24 for the final round. All the players would love to see all supporters and community members there on the 17th to cheer us on,” Cubis said.
Meanwhile, in preparation for state league, division one have organised a three-round State of Origin clash against Moree and Goondiwindi.
Cubis said they’ve already played two rounds in Goondiwindi and the results had been the same as State of Origin football with NSW winning 2-0.
The final clash will be at the Moree PCYC on Friday evening and everyone is invited to attend.
“Goondiwindi netball state league team are a fast, young side with a lot of potential. We like playing against them as we know we will get a hard, fast, skilled game of netball.
“It would be good to get a crowd to the Moree PCYC on Friday night for a great exhibition match between two strong teams,” she said.
The game will start at 7pm
