CEO, Tammy Elbourne, said it was the third year in a row Moree Tourism had been presented the honour.
“We went up against a very strong field of towns such as Leeton, Bathurst and Albury, just to name a few, and were announced the winners,” she said.
Mrs Elbourne said each year during the qualifying period, of July 1 until the end of April, an intense submission process was undertaken.
“We have to write an in-depth submission and have a judge visit the centre. We have to show what marketing projects are in place, our strategic direction and a number of other things, but we have to back it all up with results and be able to show growth in our tourism numbers,” she said.
Mrs Elbourne said even though the team won last year, they knew they had to keep developing and improving to win gold for the third time in a row.
Now the team will represent Moree in December for the NSW state tourism awards held in Sydney.
“We have won the state award for the last two years, and last year we were announced third best tourism information centre in Australia,” she said.
Another exciting announcement for the hard-working team was that Moree will next year been inducted into the tourism wall of fame.
“We get the judges’ feedback after and over the past couple of years what has pulled us over the line is the team and board of tourism, especially the girls who work in the office as each and every one of them is so dedicated and passionate about what they do,” Mrs Elbourne said.
She also congratulated the local residents and said the award was just as much the community’s as it was Tourism’s.
“Thanks to our members and community who allow us to take their products and services into the world to promote them; we are very luck to have great support.
“Our volunteer board also allows us to do what we do every day to promote Moree,” she said.
Mrs Elbourne said the girls who attended the night did a wonderful job promoting Moree, and each time they attend an awards ceremony everyone knows their faces.
“We’re all excited and proud, and I cannot thank the team enough for their continued love of the job and their love of Moree.”
