Independent Education Union general secretary, John Quessy, says the draft agreement proposed by Catholic employers threatens to increase hours of face-to-face teaching, scrap restrictions on class sizes, abolish all promotions positions, take away the right to a half-hour meal break and reduce sick leave.
“Support staff are threatened with pay cuts between $6156 and $17,417 per annum for the same work.
"Members are assembling to protest the insulting and disrespectful proposal.
“The industrial action is part of a series of rolling stoppages that are occurring around the state as part of the union's Three Rs: Recognise, Respect and Reward Campaign.
And we should be doing just that!
Teachers are now taking on a bigger role than they ever have before with much of the discipline from home now landing on our school staff.
Teachers have one of the most important roles across the world.
They are helping our children develop their skills and we all know our children are our future.
The difference between having a good and bad teacher can often change a person’s whole outlook on life and their career.
Our teachers need to be recognised for the work they do, and those who are deserving should be rewarded.
Teaching should be like any other job: you do the work, you are respected; you go above and beyond, and you are rewarded.
Why do we keep having such arguments with these people, teachers and staff in every form, who do such good jobs?
