Although the space may not be big, the range of goods available from the pantry is aplenty.
Local Lifehouse church pastor, Cie Lott, said she travelled to Coffs Harbour to complete training to run the pantry.
“About four Lifehouse Care Shops in Coffs Harbour have food pantries and they are really well run,” she said.
The pantry opened last week, and so far, local individuals and businesses have supported it.
“Woolworths have been great. Their manager Nikola Andonov and the staff have helped out a lot and Lillyman’s donated two fridges to keep the fruit and vegetables cold. It’s great to see a few organisations in the community working together,” she said.
Mrs Lott encouraged local growers to get involved by donating pantry items.
“There is a service fee of $2 to cover the cost of freight and there is a minimum of $10 that can be spent at one time, but the groceries are really low-cost.”
The groceries range from fruit and vegetables to sauces, biscuits and even meat, all for a very surprising low cost.
The pantry is only open on Thursdays from 10am until 12pm and you must have your health care or pension card with you.
