Mayor, Katrina Humphries and general manager David Aber will speak about the submission at a public hearing at the Moree and District Services Club tomorrow morning.
The submission reinforces the council and local community’s perspective regarding:
• Cost of airport access,
• Financial management /viability impacting on Regular Passenger Transport (RPT) operators,
• Economic impact on regional communities, and;
• Potential for development of future modern RPT
The submission provided by the council was drafted in partnership with Regional Development Australia Northern Inland (RDANI), Tourism Moree, the Moree Chamber of Commerce and a number of business representatives.
“While we appreciate the community has shown a strong response for the flight route between Moree and Sydney, this inquiry is an in-depth study into regional air services,” a MPSC spokesperson said.
The meeting will be held at 9.30am and all are welcome to attend.
Meanwhile, MPSC has developed an Airport Master Plan to ensure the Moree Regional Airport, its facilities and operations continue to meet the community’s transportation needs.
The visionary document also recognises the major role the airport has in providing for the economic growth of Moree plains.
Mr Aber said there was an opportunity to increase the airport’s contribution to the community.
“There is also a growth in the passenger market and by taking advantage of people using the airport, other opportunities and services become available which will value-add to the operations,” he said.
Members of the public, business owners and investors are encouraged to read the airport master plan and put forward their comments to the council.
All submissions in relation to the plan will be received until 3pm on Wednesday, August 13.
