But it doesn’t need to be all doom and gloom.
It just requires the community as a whole to stand together and unite as one in the attempt to minimise the effects of some of these rather serious crimes.
When it comes to domestic violence in particular people are often too scared to speak out for fear of what might happen to them.
As a community we need to help each other out and if we know something, it’s up to us to tell the right people, or encourage those involved to tell the right people.
When it comes to rock throwing, graffiti and anti-social behaviour in general we need to stop protecting those committing these crimes.
As is the case with many other things, it’s a minority ruining it for everyone else.
There’s one thing about regional or rural areas – everyone knows everyone and are usually willing to help out.
The town gets an opportunity to band together on Friday night to help combat at least one of our statistics - homelessness, and there’s no better place to start than at the Byamee sleep-out.
