CAMERON Hammond’s remarkable rise up the professional boxing ranks continued last night with a unanimous point’s decision victory over Argentinean Alfredo Rodolfo Blanco.

The news of the result was met with a tremendous roar at a packed town hall, where it was made official Hammond would be the new WBA Oceania Welterweight champion.
Hammond, sporting a cut above his right eye, said he perhaps didn’t throw quite as many punches as he’d have liked.
“He (Blanco) was definitely awkward and was open a lot and swung a lot of hooks,” he said.
“But with eight ounce gloves, if you land one flush you’re gone so I was probably a little bit too cautious; I should have gone forward a lot more than I did.”
The win takes Hammond’s record to a perfect 10 wins from 10 fights and capped off a remarkable night for the Moree Boxing Academy.
They had seven wins from seven fights including North West amateur titles to Curtly Hammond and Bryce Jurd.
In his first amateur bout Jakob Thompson was successful with a second-round technical knock-out, Keegan Fernando was involved in a hard-fought exhibition bout, while Rua Noble and Melwin Doring also registered unanimous point’s decision victories.
