After recently loosing the ‘Mehi Cottage’ (a small hut) to fire at the park, the other historic items have to be removed due to Work Health and Safety.
General manager, David Aber, said the state of the wagon had been in decline for some time as the wheels sit in the soil and the shelter did not provide an adequate shield from the weather.
“It was suggested through the urban advisory committee and resolved by council to call for expressions of interest for the removal and repair of both the wagon and the other machinery in Mary Brand Park,” he said.
The job is expected to start by August 31.
The council did not have the funds to remove and repair the wagon themselves, thus the call for individuals.
“The equipment was donated originally by the historical society and there are several representations from this group on the urban advisory committee so the appropriate consultation on this matter has occurred,” Mr Aber said.
Mary Brand Park plays a significant role in Moree’s history, with the park itself named after the first store-keeper and hotelier in town.
