A SERVICE was held at the Private Max Wales Memorial for Vietnam Veteran’s Day on Saturday.
Moree residents who had served in Vietnam, along with political representatives and community members, took time to remember and appreciate the sacrifices made by the many men and women during the Vietnam War.
Wreaths were placed on Private Wales’ memorial in recognition of the lives lost during the war, and RSL representative Therese Fletcher read a poem recognising the efforts of the local people who served.
Ted Heffernan of Geelong attended the service, and said he could not believe it had been 46 years since the Battle of Long Tan.
“I was in the task force area on that day, and it was very noisy; they were firing all the artillery from there,” he remembered.
“It feels like just yesterday.”
