Member for Parkes, Mark Coulton, congratulated two out of 16 young scholars who were recipients from the Parkes electorate, with Jack Scifleet from Binnaway also successful.
“The Horizon Scholarship is awarded to undergraduates to encourage them to continue to make a contribution to our rural communities,” Mr Coulton said.
“I first met Felicity through her involvement in the Moree Showgirl competition and I wish her well as she progresses with her Bachelor of Agriculture, Economics at the University of Sydney.”
Mr Coulton said the Horizon Scholarships program, which is sponsored by industry participants, is an important scheme which fosters future leaders in the agricultural sector.
“Both Felicity and Jack have shown their commitment to their local communities through involvement in civic life throughout their schooling years,” Mr Coulton said.
“The importance of productivity and advanced business skills in agriculture is increasing. Young people who are passionate about the rural industry understand this and continue to professionalise the industry,” he said.
“Congratulations to Felicity and Jack and I encourage students looking to study in agricultural related fields to consider applying for a Horizon Scholarship in the future.”
The Horizon Scholarship provides a $5000 bursary for the duration of their degree as well as professional development workshops and mentoring, industry work placements and networking opportunities.
