And for Moree motocross rider Ryan Hunt his story is a little bit different.
He’s currently creating videos with housemate Jacob Collier which document his unique journey from the bottom to the top of the motocross nationals.
“We just decided we’d film each round and put the videos out as a bit of a financial offset after I left Suzuki,” Hunt said.
It was an idea that was born as part of Hunt’s decision to throw everything in a hat and follow a dream of racing a full season.
In mid-2013 he completely turned his life around.
With the encouragement and guidance of long-time friend Johnny McLean he gave up alcohol, trained hard and started to save money in an attempt to reach a life goal that most can only dream of.
But he had to prove he was serious about progressing through the ranks.
Not only is McLean a long-time friend, he is also the founder of Lusty Industries who combined with Troy Lee Designs to help present the videos.
“Johnny told me if I stopped partying and came clean by January 1 this year he’d help me out,” Hunt said.
“It was hard at first (to stop drinking and partying),” he said.
“But it was good they thought I had potential and I now know if I’m out on the drink it’ll be the end.
“The most difficult part was before the first episode aired where I couldn’t have just one beer with mates and they wanted to know why, but it was easy after that.
“They’ve all been supportive since.”
The videos show how it is possible to climb out of the trap that a lot of skilled motocross racers fall into during the late teenage to early 20s years.
